Five for Friday

Doodle Bugs Teaching offers a Weekly Linky Party for bloggers full of 5 things - random or not. Here goes my totally random list!

1

Fun Friday - Behavior has greatly improved since I started Fun Fridays.  Fun Fridays are awarded to students that are on green or yellow all week,  I try to think of about 3 activities (for a total of 1 hour) around a theme that are educational and fun.  This week's activity was centered around Dental Health.

 2

Dental Health - We made apple smiles for a snack.  Students each got an apple slice.  They spread peanut butter over them and put mini marshmallows on top.  Not very pretty but the students loved them.

Then we cut apart an egg carton.  We glued the pieces on a rounded piece of construction paper.  We placed yellow pieces of construction paper between the "teeth."  Students then used a piece of yarn to use as floss to get the stuff between the teeth out.

The last part my be a bit gross, but I brought actual floss for the students to try using.  They really loved this part.  Hopefully this lesson will improve the breath of some students.

 3

Snow Day - We had Snow Day Number 5 due to cold weather.  While it was good for the kids, I was bummed because it feels that our school year will never end.  Safety is more important though.  Blah, blah, blah...

 4

Edmodo Snapshot - I am back to using Edmodo.  I wasn't going to use it because I am using Moby Max, and they have something similar.  Well, there were some limitations.  I love Edmodo's new feature - Snapshot.  It allows me to create standardized test questions using their bank of questions. Then I can send them work based on their skills.  With almost no effort on my part, there is a bunch of standards based materials ready to go.  I love this!

Teaching is Worth It - My favorite moment was when my former aide (who got moved to the middle school) told me that an old student was doing no work and getting by with D's.  He would tell everyone I was his favorite teacher.  She told him that she was going to report how he was doing to me.  This boy got upset because he didn't want to disappoint me.  Long story short, we have had some contact and now he guarantees that he will get A's and B's.  It's nice to know that I have made a difference.
